Update
LearnChess Academy’s Junior Champions Series

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our brand new flagship tournament range, LearnChess Academy’s Junior Champions Series!
Our new tournament series houses all of our competitive, in-person tournament experiences seamlessly within our LearnChess Academy service. We wanted to share a quick run down with you that introduced and explained why we have revamped our tournaments and how they now work.
The New Approach
LearnChess Academy’s Junior Champions Series is our prime ongoing tournament range open to juniors between the ages of 6 and 17. Our plan for this series is to run individual tournaments indefinitely within this range, in different locations across the country to bring our competitive experiences to as many young minds as possible. We’re looking to have a positive impact in new areas and can’t wait to see new faces competing and making new friends at our events.
New tournaments will frequently be organised and hosted for both the general public as well as our valued LearnChess Academy Members. Keep an eye out for tournaments in your area over at our tournaments page here to remain up to date with everything we have going on.
At the moment this is only an offering for juniors, but we hold other plans for the future for other age groups. The same can be said about our Online Tournaments too, so watch this space!
How These Tournaments Work
Each Junior Champions Series tournament is designed to be competitive, fair, and fun for all levels of junior players:
- Format: We use the Swiss system, which means every player gets to play in every round (no one is knocked out early!)
- Rounds: Most events run between 6-7 rounds, giving players plenty of chances to compete and learn.
- Time Control: Games are rapid, typically 15 minutes + 2 sec increment per move, per player depending on the event, which keeps the action fast-paced and engaging.
- Age Range: Open to juniors aged 6-17, with sections or pairings arranged to keep games fair and balanced.
- Prizes: Trophies, and medals are awarded at each tournament, with some events also including cash prizes for top finishers.
- Fair Play: All tournaments follow English Chess Federation (ECF) guidelines and are run by our experienced LearnChess Academy team to ensure a smooth and professional experience.
How to Take Part
We’ve made this process as simple as possible. To register and take part in one of our events, please visit our tournaments page here, select the tournament you want to take part in and fill out its simple corresponding registration form to secure your spot.
